Pregnant Colorado Woman's Baby Cut From Her Womb After She Responded to Craigslist Ad

She thought she was going to pick up some baby clothes she found posted on Craigslist, but instead a 26-year-old woman who was seven months pregnant walked into a house of horror. According to police in Longmont, CO, the pregnant woman was beaten and stabbed in the stomach with a knife, and her baby was "removed" from her womb.

After receiving a 911 call from the victim about a stabbing, police arrived to find her in the basement of the home with stab wounds to her stomach. She was taken to the local hospital, where she underwent surgery and is expected to recover.

The 34-year-old attacker and her husband, who have two children of their own, were found at the same hospital, where they were seeking medical attention for a deceased baby they claimed she had miscarried. Apparently the husband drove the woman and the baby to the hospital. According to police, the husband truly believed that his wife miscarried the baby, and he is not a suspect in the case. The wife was arrested and faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and child abuse knowingly and recklessly resulting in death. But the district attorney says prosecutors are still determining which charges will stick, due to Colorado law regarding unborn children.

"The issues involving an unborn child are complicated under Colorado law," Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett said. "In most circumstances, if a child was not actually born alive, then homicide charges are not possible. With a case like this, most of the time charges would not need to be filed until sometime next week."
