Siblings Prevent Kidnapping of Baby Brother

Sister and Brother Hailed as Heroes After Thwarting the Kidnapping of Their Baby Brother

An 8-year-old little girl and her 10-year-old brother are being hailed as heroes today after thwarting the kidnapping of their baby brother. Delicia and Brenden Wright were playing on a playground next to their babysitter's house in the 500-resident town of Sprague, WA, when a stranger grabbed their 22-month-old brother, Owen, from his stroller and ran off. Surveillance footage from a nearby grocery store shows the kidnapper running down the street with the toddler in his arms and Delicia and Brenden trailing him.

According to witnesses, Delicia was screaming "bloodcurdling yells" as she pursued the kidnapper, which alerted neighbors to the incident. Several teens joined in the pursuit, ultimately scaring the kidnapper, who ended up abandoning Owen in an empty lot and fleeing. He is still at large.

"I didn't really care. There was a kid's life in danger," Andrew Crane, one of the teens, told KXLY.

The children's father, who was at work at the time, was overwhelmed with emotion. He said, "I can't explain the feeling, the anxiety, and everything that goes into finding out your children [are] missing or something has happened to them."

Town police are asking anyone who recognizes the kidnapper to contact the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office at (509) 725-3501.
