As families all around the world continue to follow shelter-in-place orders, new indoor activities for the whole family seem to be popping up left and right. For the Barenz family from Farmington, UT, that meant taking a virtual trip to Disneyland by re-creating the Splash Mountain ride in their living room!
In a video shared by mother of three Lara Barenz on Reddit, her 5-year-old son, James, gets the full theme park experience courtesy of an empty diaper box perched on dad Harv's lap and a POV video of the ride on the television screen. For the full effect, Harv even spritzes James with a spray bottle full of water as the ride comes to an end. Now that's a full-immersion experience, if you ask me.
"With a little creativity and a little bit of magic you can turn a sad moment into a happy one!"
"My husband had seen something like this on Reddit with just a regular roller coaster and so he decided to re-create it with Disney rides as a way to cheer us all up," Lara told POPSUGAR via email. "We all are huge Disney fans and were supposed to go to Disneyland at the beginning of the month before it shut down. We decided to cancel because of the way things were headed. This went on for quite some time with several different rides over a couple days . . . a great way to entertain [the kids] for a while when there isn't much else to do. Although, maybe a bit tiring for my husband."
Harv and Lara then went on to re-create Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain, and Epcot's Frozen Ever After ride for James, 3-year-old daughter Ella, and 1-year-old son Thomas. "We're all just doing the best we can with the circumstances given," Lara added. "It's a hard time for everyone right now. However, with a little creativity and a little bit of magic you can turn a sad moment into a happy one!" Watch the adorable video above, and feel free to take notes on how to replicate the fun ride for your family.
