Two Moms Create a STEM Clothing Line to Break Down Gender Stereotypes

Two Seattle moms are breaking down gender norms for their daughters through the power of clothes. When Jennifer Muhm's daughter wanted to be an astronaut for Halloween, she noticed that all the costumes were modeled by boys. Malorie Catchpole had a similar experience when her daughter asked for train underpants and she discovered all the options were for boys. Instead of letting their daughters feel discouraged, the two determined mothers have created a unique girls clothing line, buddingSTEM, and have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fuel their mission of empowering girls.

The exclusive girls' line features clothes celebrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics — topics traditionally associated with boys. They want girls to know that it's OK to wear pink and like princesses and be interested in space or dinosaurs. In an interview with Huffington Post, the two moms said, "Girls shouldn't have to make a choice between feminine and expressing their love of science, or sports, or anything really!" The sweet buddingSTEM clothing options feature dresses with dinosaur prints and pants with rockets to let all girls know that they can aim to be who they want and celebrate their interests without stereotyped barriers. Keep reading to see the inspiring line and the photos that will make all mothers and their daughters smile.
