Is Kate Middleton Less Stylish Than We All Thought?
Watch out, Kate Middleton! Everyone's favorite royal may not be the style icon we all thought. A recent study found that women in the US and UK actually find First Lady Michelle Obama to be more influential than Kate when it comes to fashion. These surprising results are part of a study conducted by Jeetendr Sehdev, a celebrity branding expert and University of Southern California marketing professor. Sehdev measured five key attributes and polled 5,000 women about their thoughts.
Sehdev noted about Kate, "Does she even deserve the title of style icon? The answer is no, because she doesn't measure on the criteria of the style icon." Sehdev went on to say that while most women found Kate's look to be timeless, she was lacking in other areas, including independence and provocativeness. Said Sehdev, "It seems like she's kind of being dressed or is dressing for a nation." Kate has recently been trying a sexier look, but this may not be enough to win the style competition.
So what sets the FLOTUS apart? "First and foremost, she seems to be dressing for herself," Sehdev said. "She's seen taking far more risks. She seems to have a much stronger sense of independence. She's nobody's right hand, she's a person unto herself and that really scores highly when it comes to how that translates to fashion." According to the survey, Michelle also has more multicultural appeal and dresses for herself, not others.
