These Dresses Might Have Their Red Carpet Moment
When we heard that the 2015 Met Gala Theme had been announced, our minds got to planning. Much like the stylists who will dress the attending stars in fabulously on-theme dresses for the exhibit Chinese Whispers: Tales of the East in Art, Film, and Fashion, we have made it our mission to seek out the most glorious confections for the high-fashion event.
And since we have already been forewarned of some featured labels (Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Giorgio Armani to name a few), our loads have been made lighter. So, what are we hoping to see on the red carpet (we're looking at you, cochair Jennifer Lawrence)? Get on the whisper chain, here.
Jason Wu Fall 2012
Taiwanese-born Jason Wu paid homage to the Chinese military with stiff, brocade shoulders, Mao jacket-inspiration, and black mink embroideries.
Valentino Fall 2013
Inspired by ceramics patterns, it's not hard to see the reference in Valentino's China blue design.
Armani Privé Spring 2014
Bold red beadwork was a modern take on intricate and ancient techniques.
Louis Vuitton Spring 2011
With any luck Karlie Kloss will make it onto this year's red carpet — and with any more luck, she'll reprise her role in Marc Jacobs's art deco homage to the orient.
Chanel Pre-Fall 2010
Jade accents like this bib necklace and fringed bag would make an exquisite punctuation to any star's attire.
Roberto Cavalli Fall 2014
Roberto Cavalli's tasseled necklace and flaming-red motif were made to move through those Shanghai nights.
Alexander McQueen Spring 2012
The high neckline and cinched waist of Alexander McQueen's rich gold suiting conjured images of Cheongsam dresses.
