Valentino's Dance-Inspired Collection Is Fit For an Everyday Princess

Hearing the name Valentino, one would expect to see a fashion show packed with fancy, flowy gowns and outfits fit for the red carpet. But for Fall '16, the fashion house decided to switch things up. Signature elements like tulle, sparkle, sheer, and prints were still included in the mix, but the styling — which included chunky sweaters and even ribbed tights inspired by dance and ballet — made every piece seem completely wearable. Think "everyday princess" rather than a royal one.

As intense piano music played in the background, models ruled the wood-paneled runway in cozy layered looks that were made for movement. We saw bodysuits, turtleneck dresses, long wool coats, Rockstud ballet flats, and even combat-like boots — aka the elevated-yet-warm options we know we'll be reaching for once Summer comes to an end. Even the most elaborate of dresses seemed somewhat toned down, layered over neutral tops that made us wonder, "Hmm . . . would we dare?" (The answer is 100 times yes.)
