The 6 Biggest Trends From London Fashion Week

Hot on the heels of New York, London designers took to the catwalk to give us a taste of what we can expect for Spring 2017 (as well as a few things we can buy right now). To help you plan your future shopping list, we've rounded up the key trends we spotted on the LFW runways, from the colors we'll all be obsessing over come Spring to the new silhouettes to look out for in the coming months. It's never too early to start outfit planning.

Expect next Spring's wedding guests to dress in ankle-length dresses in soft, sheer fabrics bearing only the prettiest of prints. From pink and yellow baby florals, seen here at Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, to dainty dancing ladies at PPQ and slightly darker hues at Erdem, the only rule here is that the final effect most be feminine and romantic, with just a touch of London edge.

Summer's fresh, preppy print was all over the London catwalks, from Molly Goddard, who gave us a pumped-up sundress in classic black and white (pictured), to House of Holland, where poppy pinks and purples made up frilled minis and tiny crop tops. Peter Jensen blew up the print for his statement coat, the ultimate cover-up on colder days.

Statement Sleeves

If it's cool enough to wear sleeves, opt for the most dramatic ones you can find. At Osman, we saw simple shirts with billowing bishop sleeves, and Antonio Berardi tried a similar style with a sheer fabric. J.W. Anderson pleated and gathered shirt sleeves, and a host of designers showed exaggerated flounces. When it comes to sleeves, London designers want you to go big or go home.

Think Pink!

For some reason, pink is always a big colour in London, and this season was no exception. Bright bubblegum hues ruled the roost at Preen (pictured), Ryan Lo, and Temperley. Molly Goddard continued to subvert the pretty prom dress in new and exciting ways, and Bora Aksu showed soft ruffles on hugely covetable midi dresses.

Slinky satin, chain mail, and silk practically poured themselves over models in a variety of metal hues: gunmetal at Mulberry (pictured), silver at Versus, bronze at Roksanda, and old gold at Eudon Choi. For the full effect, opt for a slinky midi dress with bias-cut panels for a slightly '20s look.

Vertical Stripes

Anyone who still believes the old adage that horizontal stripes make you look bigger will rejoice when they see the London shows, as designers like Markus Lupfer (pictured) and Burberry were all about the vertical stripes. On slinky pyjama-style trousers, they give you the longest legs in the world. On more flirty pieces, like Paul Costelloe's minidress, they look flirty and fun.
