Jacquemus's 10th Anniversary Show in the Middle of a Lavender Field Was Just as Magical as It Sounds

Simon Porte Jacquemus is the most Instagrammable designer of the moment. Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, and Kim Kardashian are all huge fans. You might be familiar with the brand's micro-sized handbags or the outrageously oversize sunhats seen all over the 'gram, and now Jacquemus's stunning 10th anniversary show will be inspiring Summer style well into next year.

Jacquemus showcased both womenswear and menswear for Paris Fashion Week Men's Spring/Summer '20 season, titled "Le Coup de Soleil" or "The Sunburn." As the models made their way down a fuchsia catwalk, the garments descended like a dreamy sunset in the center of a lavender field in Valensole, Provence.

Jacquemus told Vogue that the romantic set, as well as the colors of the collection, were influenced by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and David Hockney's series of paintings "The Arrival of Spring in Woldgate, East Yorkshire" displayed at the Royal Academy in 2011. While the show was most certainly a spectacle for Instagram's style set, we're keen on the standout trends that will be shaping luxury and affordable collections for many seasons to come.

A Sunset Palette

We love a painterly palette. Jacquemus Spring '20 brought a vast selection of colors and hues. From bright pops of fuchsia and orange to sweet, muted pastel pink, mint, and light blue. Most of the looks emphasized tonal styling and color-blocking which added to the dreamlike scene of the lavender fields.

The Micro Bag Gets Some New Shapes

Jacquemus itsy bitsy teeny weeny shoulder bags almost broke the Internet after their Spring '19 collection. Arguably, they were the most successful part of his previous collection, so of course he would give us tons of new silhouettes for his famous little accessory. Spring '20 saw mini baguette bags, dumpling bags, structured mini hat boxes, ultra tiny shoulder bags worn as a pendant on a leather strap necklace, mesh totes worn as backpacks, plus the return of the popular micro handbag.

An Oversized Blazer as a Styling Essential

Many of the looks this season featured an oversize blazer or trench coat in white, mint, slate gray, and the occasional pop of fuchsia. Mannish, oversize blazers are perfect for the in-between seasons or unpredictably chilly days. While a fitted blazer instantly dresses up a look, sometimes they can look a bit corporate. An oversize blazer is the perfect balance of smart and casual.

A New Take on The Essential Wrap Dress

We love how easy-to-wear a wrap dress is. It's perfect for Summer, while being comfortable enough to move with us during all of our sea, sand, and poolside adventures. Jacquemus's new take on our go-to Summer dress has an eclectic, architectural vibe to it. The extra strap of the dress looks like a perfectly placed accident.

Off-Beat Materials and New Patterns

Compared to the three prints featured in Jacquemus's previous collection, this season showed an impressive thirty-five prints. Playing on the trend of "plastic fashion," the designer used a fabric that resembled a vinyl raincoat to create a whimsical, draped dress. Jacquemus's use of a fabric that is generally seem as stiff and difficult to manipulate, and transforming it into a garment that carries a feminine, romantic movement was innovative. Other standout prints included his use of ombré, hand painted scenic prints, sequinned metallic dresses, bold florals, and sheer embroidery.

Strappy Sandals Aren't Going Anywhere, Anytime Soon

The strappy kitten heel is certainly the shoe of the Summer, and Jacquemus is continuing this trend well into Spring/Summer 2020. Almost every look was styled with Instagram's favorite shoe shape, and we can't wait to see all the new season footwear that Jacquemus will be releasing soon.
