Harley Pasternak Explains Exactly Why Juice Isn't as Healthy as You Think

Celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak is back on Instagram with another PSA about "fake healthy" foods, and this time he's really coming for us with facts about juice.

"It's dessert," he says in his video. "It's delicious" and "it's a great natural dessert," but "it's not part of a regular healthy diet." Harley compared juicing vegetables and fruits to juicing "salmon," describing "the pink water that falls on the plate" as "salmon water," not salmon "juice." We can't help but agree — while we love a delicious fresh juice (it's absolutely better than a soda), it's not a meal, and you're definitely missing out on fiber from the whole fruit or vegetable.

Juice is really just sugar, he explained, as "the majority of the nutrients are left behind [when you juice] — both macro and micro" (think: healthy fats, protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals). Additionally, just one glass "counts as your daily intake of sugar — not worth it." Harley suggests leaving the juice for "that special Sunday brunch" and making a smoothie instead to get delicious fruits and veggies with fiber and nutrients. "BLEND, great. Juice, no."
