This Vegan Cheesesteak at Disney Tastes Like It Was West Philadelphia Born and Raised

Now this is a story all about how Disney flipped cheesesteak upside down . . . OK, but seriously, we need to take a hot second and acknowledge this vegan cheesesteak at Disney World — because we've tasted the real deal, and this is honestly better.

Chef Gary Jones, who works with both the concept development food lab and the health and wellness team at Walt Disney World, has tasked the chefs at Disney parks to bring more delicious plant-based meals to the table. His goal is to create delicious, "craveable" meat-free meals that not only impact Disney guests, but the world at large. That's right. He wants to make a global, environmental impact, one plant-based meal at a time (at one of the most visited locations in the US).

One of his latest creations is the cheesesteak, which we got to taste at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort in Orlando, FL. And let us just tell you, this delectably deceiving dish is mouthwatering and, as Chef Gary would put it, totally craveable. Let's take a closer look, shall we?

Where to Find It

Get the cheesesteak (and other delish vegan items!) at the Caribbean Beach Resort's Centertown Market. It's on the menu as the "Cheese Steak" Griddled Seitan ($11).

What's Inside

The sandwich is described as "griddled seitan, seitan cheese, pickle chip, vegan mayonnaise, peppers and onions, and pickle relish melted between French bread." Seitan is a high-protein, gluten-based ingredient used to make vegan cheese. Chef Gary told POPSUGAR that he wanted meat eaters to find these plant-based meals approachable — even enjoyable! — but that more than anything, the goal is that "no one should miss out on anything" when it comes to Disney food.
