The party-ready deck has been power washed and then the walls painted a bold dark gray. The flooring and railing were then stained bright white. The overall effect is transformative.

For al fresco meals with friends, Monica added a sophisticated 8-person outdoor dining table set ($1,645), complete with a giant patio umbrella ($191) to provide shade on those sunny Summer days.

No outdoor kitchen would be complete without some countertop and storage space. Enter: a DIY island cart loaded with everything needed for grilling. Overhead, Monica hung some adorable cafe lights ($55) to create ambiance.

Monica wanted to make the deck a veritable outdoor kitchen, so beyond throwing a grill onto it, she added an herb garden. Using wooden boards, Monica built and mounted long horizontal planters on the wall and filled them with fragrant herbs, perfect for cooking.

Cozy seating spots, like a 4-piece wicker conversation patio set ($646) are artfully arranged on the deck to accommodate everything from a peaceful moment of relaxation to a lively catch-up session. Thoughtful accents, like throw pillows and

oak resin planters ($15) full of lush flowers, warm up the space and make it the perfect place to entertain.
