Lance Bass and Michael Turchin's Newlywed Home Is Full of Shockingly Affordable Decor

Lance Bass and Michael Turchin put the finishing touches on their welcoming LA house just in time to celebrate their one-year anniversary — well, almost. There's still one piece of decor they need to get up: wedding photos. "There are three places in the house that we want good wedding photos — one in the living room, one in our bedroom, and one in the guest room — and we could just not figure out what pictures to put in the frames, so there's empty frames there," joked Lance. "Maybe we'll just copy a lot of them and switch them out every week," he said with a laugh.

Wedding photos aside, the *NSYNC singer turned Sirius XM radio host and artist/actor have created a beautiful home together full of colorful art, unexpected humor, and some seriously affordable decor. Keep reading to tour their home and get the inside scoop straight from Lance and Michael.

"When we designed the house, we wanted that kitchen to be open to the living room because we knew we would love to wine and dine all at the same time with our friends," said Michael. On those occasions, Lance will cook his famous chili. "Just watch movies, play game night, and eat this chili," the singer said.

"We were very lucky that we have similar tastes," said Lance of what it was like to design a home with his spouse. "We got to really see what we liked and thank God we liked a lot of the same things. And the great thing is he’s an artist, so there’s always art around. We design around a lot of his art at times." Case in point the vibrant print above the bar.

Not surprisingly, Lance and Michael's home is filled with art from all different price points. When it comes to shopping for more affordable pieces, Michael believes there's more important things to evaluate a piece on than price. "I think art is a personal thing and whatever speaks to you. . . . You can get some awesome pieces without killing your wallet."

The self-described homebodies would rather stay in and hang out with good friends than hit the club. Accordingly, they've made their home a cozy place to entertain. "We have I think five faux-fur mats and throws in our house. They’re everywhere. We have a massive, massive couch in our TV room so everyone always winds up curled up in like a sea of pillows and blankets."

When it comes to what to splurge on vs. save on, the couple has strong opinions. "For some of the staples in the house, you know, certain sofas or chairs, or the coffee table in our formal living room, we splurge on those. But for side tables and little bar areas and pretty much just accent pieces we get from HomeGoods," Michael explained. "I think it’s just crazy, you can spend a fortune on a vase and no one can tell the difference."

Lance and Michael don't take themselves seriously, and their playful home reflects their sense of humor. The MTV Moonman award in the bathroom is the perfect example. "Noticing that a VMA [award] just happens to be the perfect use for a toilet roll, it really kind of just [shows] the type of humor we have," explained Lance.

The living room may have white walls, but it's anything but sterile. "I’m big on color and I love using art as background tool to brighten up a room," said Michael. "I don’t think you need to go crazy with everything so art is a way to have fun in a room."

Whereas many people wouldn't have seen the potential in a bull wall decal or would've immediately relegated it to a children's space, Lance and Michael had the creativity to know it would look great upside down in the bathroom. "If you start moving things around, you see things in different light," Michael explained. "It’s good to switch things around and then you find a new appreciation for certain pieces that you otherwise didn't really have before."

The impala bust is one of Lance and Michael's favorite — and most affordable — pieces of decor in the home. They stumbled upon it in HomeGoods right after returning from a magical trip in Africa where they got engaged for the second time. "It was like fate that we ran into this amazing bust of this impala," Lance said. "It sits right in the center of our living room. It just reminds us of where we committed our lives to each other."
