The Most Breathtaking Ways to Use Succulents at Your Wedding

Forget romantic roses or classic peonies! Wedding flowers can be as hip, bohemian, or whimsical as the bride whose wedding they're decorating. So when fashion-forward Hills alum and co-founder of online floral delivery service Bloom2Bloom Whitney Port was planning her Palm Springs wedding, she thought outside the box with her florals. "My whole wedding was succulents," Whitney told POPSUGAR. Adding, "Sometimes flowers can be overplayed, especially if you're on a budget." Whitney also adds that surprisingly affordable succulents have much to offer besides their beauty; for example, they're very DIY friendly if you don't want to hire a florist, and instead of dying shortly after the wedding, they can be regifted to guests or replanted and enjoyed for years to come. In fact, Whitney's mom replanted the succulents from the big day in her garden! Want to know more? The savvy former bride (and new mom to baby Sonny) shares her personal tips on how to decorate with succulents to stunning effect ahead.

Boutonnières and Bouquets

"In terms of bouquets and boutonnières, those are something that add up in cost," said Whitney. She kept expenses low and creativity high by creating adorable succulent boutonnières for groomsmen and constructing bouquets out of succulents for the bridesmaids.

Aisle Decor

You could spend a fortune draping your aisle in floral garlands, covering it in rose petals, and crowning it with ornate blossom-filled urns . . . or you could opt for simple yet impactful succulent displays, as Whitney did. They're just as stunning, oodles more unique, and a fraction of the price.

Dramatic Arch

"One of my biggest tips and favorite from my own wedding is to create an entire greenery or succulent arch to get married under," Whitney revealed. "Do something different! We're so used to seeing those overdone floral arches. Something more simple and green makes a statement that people won't anticipate."

Modern Centerpieces

Forget the oversize floral centerpiece you've come to expect. Whitney used succulents to create smaller and more modern floral arrangements. She explained, "At my wedding, we didn't have typical tables with a sit-down dinner. We had a big living-room-style wedding, and we created these living-room vignettes with tables and chairs to make sure each little vignette had a big plant, a big succulent, in the center of the table." Whitney loved how chic and "not overdone" this unique take on centerpieces appeared.
