Step into any kitchen remodeled in the early 2000s and you'll see why it's important to ignore overly trendy pieces. Tile countertops and bleached-oak cabinets today feel remarkably dated. Even though marble counters are definitely trendy right now, they're also exceptionally classic. The use of marble in kitchens goes back centuries and spans continents. We've left red wine glasses out all night and missed spots of tomato sauce by accident, only to have them wipe away clean with no damage.

Even though marble is tougher than people think, that doesn't mean you can let dripping pots and pans sit on it for days. Having marble will encourage you to keep a clean kitchen, in part because you don't want laziness to have any lasting damage, and also because your kitchen will be so beautiful that you'll want it to look clean and presentable at all times.
