Did Selena Win a Grammy?

Selena Was the First Tejano Artist to Ever Win a Grammy — She Was Just 23

During her short but successful career, Selena Quintanilla released Live! in 1993. That album, recorded during a free concert at the Memorial Coliseum in Corpus Christi, TX, on Feb. 7, 1993, would lead to her first and only Grammy win.

The then-23-year-old won the best Mexican/American album category with Live! becoming the first ever recording by a Tejano artist to do so. At the ceremony, hosted in New York City on March 1, 1994, Selena got up on stage wearing a breathtaking white dress covered in crystals, her signature red lip, and an updo that has now become iconic.

"I'd also like to thank my band, Los Dinos, my father, Abraham, my brother, who's a producer of my music, and also my sister — thank you for all the support. And I'd also like to thank all the EMI Latin family. Thank you for having faith in me. I love you. Thank you," she said during her acceptance speech. Almost exactly a year later, on March 31, 1995, she was murdered, but her legacy continues to live on thanks to her family and her fans.
