Rachelle Friedman may have been paralyzed from the chest down five years ago, but there's no way in hell that she's lost her spark. The 29-year-old, now a wife and mom, sustained her injuries in an accident during her bachelorette party . . . but now she's using her experiences (and her sex appeal) to send a message about disabilities. By posing in lacy lingerie and striking sensual poses, Friedman aims to show the world that people with disabilities can still be sexy, and enjoy sex to boot.
"I wanted to do something for not only my confidence, but for anyone in my situation who thinks they aren't beautiful because of a flaw. The paralysis is part of me. The catheter is part of me, but neither is all of me. Confidence will outshine flaws. I'm doing this for those who can't see past a wheelchair," she posted on Facebook about her sexy shoot. "I'm doing it to show that we are capable, sexual beings and we are not to be overlooked."
Friedman is sure to clarify that she's not glamourizing paralysis, which she notes is an "awful part of my life," but strives to create a dialogue about social treatment of people with disabilities. "I saw in the media this seemingly overwhelming consensus that people with disabilities are unlovable, asexual and just plain not sexy," she wrote, expanding upon her inspiration for the photo shoot. Encouraging others to share their own photos with #WhatMakesMeSexy, Friedman asked followers to celebrate a day of self-love and positivity.
