6 Ways a Toddler Can Ruin Your Life

You've probably heard from many parents that parenting is both the most wonderful and most difficult thing you'll ever do. You may have even been told as you held your tiny infant, gazing into their new eyes, "They look cute now." Everything you've heard is true: learning to live a healthier lifestyle and dancing in the aisles while you grocery shop can really make for a bad day. Here are six ways a toddler can ruin your life.

You have to think about what you eat.

We've been told that you should give your toddler foods that nourish and support them. Because of this, you may find yourself eating all sorts of healthy stuff too, like greens and beans. You may also find yourself hiding leafy greens in everything you consume: smoothies, sauces, stir-fries. And guess what else? There is a chance you will stop or reduce the amount of plastic you use.

Your vacations to exotic places? You guessed it: you probably have to take your toddler along. There is a chance that they may pick flowers for you in the tulip fields outside Amsterdam and make you smell them, ask you to spin them in circles in the crystal blue waters of Tulum, Mexico, or even fall asleep while you are sitting under a palm tree in Puerto Rico and you will just have to read a book while you wait for them to wake. Really, you might as well just stay home.

They wake you up early.

How many of you have had to get up so early that you see the sunrise? It's gorgeous, yes, but it's early, so it's also the worst. Waking up early also means you have more hours in the day, which can be filled with things like early morning walks or an extra cup of coffee — or, better yet, complaining about the added hour your toddler has to ruin the day.

They make you use your imagination.

Before naptime, you will probably have already been the pilot on an airplane and every animal you can think of. Instead of getting to check your email or Instagram for the tenth time in an hour, you will be on your hands and knees building a house with blocks or drawing fishies, again and again. Your toddler is probably going to be laughing at you the entire time.

They force you to learn life lessons.

Toddlers! They really live in the moment. They will dance in the aisle of a grocery store, scream during a fancy dinner out, and laugh with their whole heart during a business meeting that you couldn't find a sitter for. As parents, it's far easier to just dwell on the past and freak out about the future. They also seem to know nothing about timing and schedules. Going with the flow and learning to not rush? Maybe in 2019.

They'll make you forget to care about your appearance.

They'll make you forget to care about your appearance.

Haven't showered and got bags under your eyes? Your toddler doesn't care. Which is really no help at all, because that means they also don't care if you go to the gym or not. They actually love you exactly how you are. If the person you spend the most time with won't tell you when you look a hot mess, who will?
