Man Tweets NRA Statistics to Politicians
1 Man Is Schooling Politicians Who Tweeted Their "Prayers" After the California Shooting
In the wake of Wednesday's mass shooting in San Bernardino, CA, the public is becoming more vocal about gun control reform than ever. One person in particular, ThinkProgress contributing editor Igor Volsky, is using social media to make his voice heard. In response to politicians tweeting about sending "thoughts" and "prayers" to victims of the senseless violence, Volsky has replied with cold, hard facts: the amount of funding that each congressperson and senator has received from pro-gun groups, such as the National Rifle Association.
Calling out more than 30 politicians about NRA campaign contributions and endorsements, Volsky aimed to point out hypocrisy surrounding government treatment of gun control. While many representatives are happy to send "thoughts and prayers" to victims of gun violence, the political writer says they're unlikely to vote in favor of gun reform if they are pocketing money from pro-gun organizations.
NRA spent $30,650,008 in independent expenditures during the 2014 election cycle.
You read that right. $30,650,008.

In 2012, NRA spent *$19.7 MILLION* on independent expenditures for candidates to only tweet #thoughtsandprayers in response to gun violence

Gun regulation should be part of ANY counterterrorism strategy and lawmakers who reject it aren't serious about keeping us safe.
