Picture of Obama Holding Little Boy's Cheek
This Beautiful Photo of Obama and a Boy Is Bound to Become Iconic
![]()
It's sure to become one of the more iconic photos from Barack Obama's presidency — a boy named Clark, looking up as the president grazes his cheek while he crosses his little tie over the rope line. This powerful image has sparked the#ObamaAndKids hashtag that's taking over social media, with users sharing sweet pictures of Obama with the children he's come in contact with over the years.
Many have pointed out that the photo — taken by White House photographer Pete Souza — captures how inspirational Obama has been to young black kids like Clark Reynolds. The 3-year-old had no idea when he changed into a suit and tie that he'd be meeting Obama during the White House's Black History Month celebration. But his mother is a former congressional staffer who had gotten an invitation to the event through a friend, according to the Washington Post.
As soon as entrepreneur and activist Michael Skolnik saw the picture, he encouraged people to post similar ones.
"We'll probably never truly be able to measure the impact that President Barack Obama has had on our children," he wrote in a Medium blog post about why he started the hashtag. "I want my child and all children to be able to one day fully understand just how extraordinary of a President, Barack Obama has been. I wish that one day they will understand and appreciate his compassion, his generosity and his commitment to equity for every person in this nation and the world."
