- The election might be over, but the unrest is only beginning. Thousands of people across the country are protesting Donald Trump's presidential victory in city streets, and some demonstrations have turned violent. Protesters in Oakland, CA, reportedly looted buildings and launched molotov cocktails at police. Even high schoolers joined the fight, particularly in Berkeley, CA, where thousands of students left class to demonstrate.
- In other major news, 2016 has taken one more musical icon. Leonard Cohen, the acclaimed lyricist behind the classic song "Hallelujah," died on Thursday night. The Canadian musician died at 82 in his Los Angeles home; no cause of death has been released yet.
- Over on the other side of the world, schools in New Delhi, India, were forced to close because of dangerous pollution levels this week. Measurements of air quality taken at the American Embassy placed the level of air pollution at 999 out of a 500-point index.
- In what came as a surprise to many, the women's clothing startup Nasty Gal filed for bankruptcy on Thursday. The marketplace shot to popularity in part because Nasty Gal's founder, Sophia Amoruso, wrote a book called Girl Boss that chronicled her rise to success.
- As we head into the weekend, Americans across the country are honoring veterans. Veterans Day coincides with Armistice Day, or the end of World War I. In his address to the country from Arlington Cemetery today, President Obama called on the US to unite together despite the apparent divide demonstrated by the recent election. "We can respect one another. We can always get each other's backs," he said. "That is what Veterans Day asks all of us to think about."
