Video of Woman Escaping Mudslide in Peru

This Crazy Video Shows How a "Warrior" Woman Narrowly Escaped a Mudslide

Dramatic floods caused by heavy rainfall in Peru have claimed dozens of lives and destroyed much infrastructure. In Lima, video footage captured one woman narrowly avoiding a massive mudslide and climbing to safety atop shaky debris. The now-viral video demonstrates the widespread effects of this natural disaster on a very personal level.

In a video obtained by The Guardian the woman — since revealed to be 32-year-old Evangelina Chamorro Díaz — is spotted by onlookers among planks of wood and other debris. She uses the planks to crawl and climb to the nearest high point not far from the mudslide. There, several people standing by are able to help Díaz.

According to ABC, Díaz had just returned from dropping her kids off at school. Afterward, she decided to feed her pigs with her husband in the Lima suburb where they reside. As the mudslide started to roll in, Díaz and her husband held on to a tree, but the trunk broke and she was swept away. Thankfully, she did not sustain any major injuries.

Following the incident, the nation's health minister Patricia Garcia visited Díaz and said, "She is a little confused, but she is very well and will recover because she is a warrior and thank God nothing serious happened."
