Follow in the Footsteps of the Spanish Royals and Take a Trip to Mallorca

The Balearics, a group of Spanish islands nestled in the Mediterranean Sea, are one of Europe's most popular vacation destinations, and it's easy to see why. Mallorca, the largest island, is the perfect mix of lush green views and beaches for days. It's no wonder the Spanish royals choose to travel there every year for their Summer break. The Mediterranean isle is sunny from April onward, making it the perfect destination for a spot of Summer sun. Keep reading to discover the very best hotels and villas in Mallorca, including one that was made famous on British TV!

Hotel Salvia

Hotel Salvia is nestled in the Sóller Mountains, and it is a treat of a place to stay. The pool is perfection and has the most beautiful views, but the real draw is actually the gorgeous tiled suites that feel like they're lifted straight from an interiors magazine. They can be very expensive — a few hundred Euros a night — and some book well in advance, but if you're booking last-minute, you'll get a very good deal.

Zafiro Palace Palmanova

If you're looking for a sprawling family resort with all the trimmings, look no further than the Zafiro Palace Palmanova. With a whopping 11 outdoor pools, plus two indoor pools and a spa, you might not even make it to the beach. We'll meet you by the poolside bar. What do you mean, "Which one?"

Hotel Son Ametler

Mallorca might be known for its bustling atmosphere, but it's also got a few pockets of quiet, and one of those is the Hotel Son Ametler in Moscari, at the northwest end of the island. It's a real foodie destination — everything is fresh, and you'll be treated to a four-course meal every evening. Amazingly, prices start at just over $100 a night.

Casa Amor

Mallorca recently became even more popular in the UK when it played host to the TV phenomenon Love Island (think The Bachelor with couples).

"Casa Amor," the secret second villa that featured in the show, is available to rent from $6,172 per week. It has four bedrooms and sleeps eight, so if you can split that cost between friends, it suddenly becomes far more affordable. And just look at that pool!

Bikini Island

Ignore the supercheesy name for a moment, because Bikini Island is actually a good hotel option if there's a group of you that can't decide between parties and hangovers or exploring and having adventures. The hotel is in Port de Sóller, a gorgeous and petite beach that's reached from the airport via a tram and a wooden tourist train through the mountains (taxis are available, but where's the fun in that?). It's a luxury resort that doesn't feel like a cookie-cutter experience. Rooms start at $145 a night.

Hotel Espléndido

The dream holiday setup is definitely pool + beach, and Hotel Espléndido really delivers on that front. There are actually three pools to choose from: one indoor, one large heated pool, and a smaller one that has uninterrupted views of the horseshoe bay and is adults only. You pay for the good stuff, though: in high season the cheapest sea-view room is still about $360 a night.

Gran Hotel Son Net

Fancy shacking up in a 17th century mansion for a week? Gran Hotel Son Net is, to put it frankly, completely lush. Think: grand suites, beautiful decor, marbled bathrooms. The surrounding area of Puigpunyent is beautifully green, but you can shut out the sun by hiring a poolside cabana for an afternoon snooze. One last thing to entice your fancy self: you can hire the hotel's plane for a trip to the Guggenheim in Bilbao. In high season, a suite will set you back nearly a grand, but go a little off season and you can bag a garden-view room for just over $200 per night.

Ca'n Verdera

There are only 11 rooms at Hotel Ca'n Verdera, so this is the perfect spot for privacy and catching up on all of those excellent beach reads you've been piling up. Breakfast comes with freshly squeezed orange juice made with oranges picked straight from the valley the hotel is nestled in, but you're near the small town of Fornalutx, which has some excellent restaurants. Rooms can cost as little as $165 a night, and you're only 40 minutes from the airport, too. This island life really is peachy.

Ca's Xorc Hotel

You'll need to book very early to bag a room at Ca's Xorc Hotel, due to its popularity (with celebrities and wedding parties, not just us). Food is the focus of this former olive mill, and you'll be treated to beautiful fresh breakfasts on a terrace overlooking the valleys and a six-course tasting menu for dinner, if you book in advance (otherwise it's four courses, so you'll definitely eat well). Come here to get away from it all, but make sure one of you is driving so you can really explore the island. The cheapest rooms are around $260 a night.

Sant Francesc Hotel Singular

For a hotel that's right in the thick of it, look no further than Sant Francesc Hotel Singular. Situated right in the center of Palma, with a rooftop terrace pool that will have you scrabbling for your passport in seconds, this hotel is a seriously chic way to experience Mallorca's most popular holiday destination. It'll cost somewhere in the region of $450 a night, whatever time of year you go.

Hotel Portixol

Another hotel in Palma, Hotel Portixol is right on the harbor of the city. The hotel has bicycles that you can borrow to whiz around the coast, a spa, and a bar that gets very lively at night. With rooms from around $200 per night, this is a really good hotel choice for a week away with the girls. One of the biggest draws for Palma is its proximity to the airport — you're just 20 minutes away — so you can spend the last day of your holiday soaking up some last-minute rays instead of sitting in the back of a taxi for hours.
