Anjula Acharia is best known for being Priyanka Chopra's manager. However, she's also a serial investor and entrepreneur under her company A-Series Investments, where she helps bridge the gap between tech and Hollywood. She founded her first start-up, Desi Hits, "which was a platform for East and West pop culture, because I really saw this moment of these two worlds colliding in music and culture," she tells POPSUGAR. After facing racism in her childhood and adolescence, she wanted to propel proper representation of South Asians in the media and create that connection between both cultures.

"I remember when I was in England, and Jay-Z jumped on that song with Punjabi MC . . . it was like a real moment, everyone in London playing that song with their windows down . . . and we suddenly became part of the culture," she says. That was the moment that made her realize Desi Hits was worth creating. The platform has since helped artists like Lady Gaga, 50 Cent, and Sean Paul get into the South Asian market, and even facilitated the remix collaboration of "Jai Ho" with The Pussycat Dolls.

Founding Desi Hits was the seed that led her to bring Chopra to the American market. After watching Chopra in a music video for a 2005 Bollywood movie called "Bluffmaster!," Acharia knew that the star had to make her debut in the American music scene. "I found out that two Indian producers I was working with, Salim and Sulaiman, had just recorded a demo with Priyanka, and I asked them to send it to me and they said yes. And I sent it to Jimmy Iovine, the co-founder of Interscope Records, and he goes, 'She can sing.' And I was like, 'Let's sign,' and the rest is history," she says.

Acharia raves about Chopra's creativity and talent. "I love my relationship with Pri because she just surprised me every day," she says. After Chopra released a few songs like "In My City" and "Exotic" in the 2010s, her music career wasn't taking off, so Acharia decided to pivot to TV and utilize Chopra's 20 years' worth of acting experience. "You really have to anticipate pop culture, and to do so you have to listen to the consistent conversations at the watercooler or at dinner tables or in cafes, and look for consistency, look for the themes that people are talking about," she says, noting that this was a time when shows with diverse female leads were taking over.

She also applied this same mindset to her own portfolio and became an early investor in start-ups like Classpass and Olipop. Throughout her years in entrepreneurship, she has learned so much, she says — whether it's honing in on a problem that needs to be solved or noticing trends in the culture. But her biggest lesson is to be open-minded. "Your mind should be like a parachute, it only functions when it's open. I've just learned to stay open-minded and listen and see opportunities," she says, explaining she's never really believed in a five-year plan. Acharia adds, "What I am is someone who sees opportunities and is not blind to them. I have no idea what opportunities will come to me tomorrow, but I do believe that an opportunity will come to me tomorrow, and I'll jump on if it feels like the right thing."

Although Acharia balances managing Chopra and being on top of her investment portfolio, she loves to spend her free time catching up on her favorite TV shows, going on walks to embrace nature, and traveling. Ahead, she gave us the rundown on some of her favorite products, including an Aesop lotion and Away luggage.

Anjula Acharia's Affordable Must Have

Acharia is obsessed with the Victoria Beckham Beauty Satin Kajal Liner ($30) — especially the shade Surfside, which is a gorgeous dark metallic turquoise. "The thing that I love about this eyeliner is how versatile it is . . . it's got the smudgy thing on the end, so you can do one line in your waterline, or you can literally make a smokey eye," Acharia says. She describes the texture as creamy with a really nice glide: "When you smudge it out, it doesn't just fade, it smudges out beautifully, the pigment really spreads; it doesn't just disappear or go sort of like light." The eyeliner comes in a wide variety of shades. Check out our review of the Victoria Beckham Beauty Satin Kajal Liner here.

Pro Tip: "What I do is I put it across the top of my eyelid, and then I use my finger to flick it upwards, and smudge it out to give it that really natural wing," she says.

Acharia has combination skin, which means it's oily yet dehydrated and prone to breakouts, and finding a moisturizer that accommodated her skin's needs was a challenge until she came across the Dr. Barbara Sturm Darker Skin Tones Face Cream ($225). "It's just this really staple, very rich, non-oily-looking face cream that just hydrates but doesn't hydrate too much that you look oily," she says. "It's just a great base for putting other products into it if you want to, but also just perfect on its own." Acharia notices a big difference in her skin when she uses this cream, saying it keeps her skin plump with a youthful appearance. It is formulated with magnolia and African whitewood bark extracts, which the brand claims helps refine pores, balance the skin, and provide hydration. It also contains lumicol, which helps to even out the skin tone, and telovitin, which helps with anti-aging concerns.

Pro Tip: As someone with a brown skin tone, Acharia loves using the brand's line for darker skin tones. She also regularly uses the Foam Cleanser ($75) and the Enzyme Cleanser ($75), which are must haves for model Lais Ribeiro as well.

"I cannot function without my ginger chai, but I'm also very conscious about tea," she says. Acharia points out that most tea bags have plastic and forever chemicals in them. She also prefers to avoid caffeine in her diet. Enter the Clipper Organic Decaf Black Tea ($16), which is unbleached and has everything that she is looking for in a clean tea. "It was actually really hard to find a decaf organic," she says. She travels with these tea bags so that she can always have her go-to tea no matter where she is in the world.

Acharia believes that both Americans and the British do it wrong when it comes to brewing flavorful tea. She steeps her tea in a boiling pot of water for a few minutes, infusing it with spices including cardamom, ginger, cloves, black pepper, and sometimes turmeric. "I was watching 'Bridgeton' once and Simone Ashley, she's coming from India to Britain, and she broke the little cardamoms and she put it in her tea. I was like, 'Yes! Yup! I do that too.'" Acharia also adds in organic walnut milk, and lets it brew and boil until the milk reaches a froth-like texture. Once it's ready, she strains it and enjoys.

Pro Tip: To really give your tea an extra kick, you can grind your whole spices and fresh ginger pieces with a mortar and pestle for a more impactful flavor profile.

Anjula Acharia's Sleep Must Have

Acharia is a big fan of Aesop's lineup, and her sleep routine isn't complete without the Rind Concentrate Body Balm ($100). "I have this ritual I do every night where I really massage my hands," she says, adding that she does this after she her skin-care routine and right before going to bed. "I think your hands really are your age giveaway and you're always using your hands, so every night I lather my hands up, because that's like seven hours of moisture going into your hands."

She describes the scent as citrusy but very calming and comforting, stating that it feels like home. "I used to eat lot of tangerines when I was a little girl, especially during Christmas time in England. Maybe that's something to do with it . . . I grew up with those citrusy scents and it always feels really good to me," she says.

Pro Tip: If your hands feel dry often, Acharia recommends keeping hand cream everywhere you frequent, whether it's your nightstand, desk, car, your handbags, etc.

Acharia swears by the durability and practicality of Away's The Bigger Carry-On ($645). "I love the silver ones; it always stands out. It's really easy to find," she says. She loves its sturdy construction, and is even able to use it as an impromptu seat when waiting at the gate. Acharia raves about the carry-on's spinner wheels and how the interior is designed for organization. As she says, "It has a little bag in there for your dirty laundry, which I love . . . the compression cover has mesh pockets, so you can see what's in them." She compares it to the Tardis from "Doctor Who": "You get a lot more in there then you realize." Pro Tip: Acharia tends to feel cold on planes, and to remedy that she carries a rubber hot water bottle with her and asks the flight attendant to fill it with hot water so she can feel warm throughout the flight. "You can put it on your back, you can put on your tummy, if you've got period pain, you can hold it in your arms; it's the best thing ever," she says.
