Saying farewell to the Summer season isn't always the easiest, but knowing that Fall treats and gorgeous scenery in an array of harvest-y colors awaits us makes it something to look forward to. We'll slide on a cozy sweater in the crisp air, pick way more apples than we need, and eat equally as many cider donuts against a backdrop of vibrant foliage, because, Fall.

Luckily, there are a plethora of destinations across the US to drool over the foliage transformation. And depending on where and when you go, you may just be able to catch different shades in more than one locale this season. So, pack your plaid shirts, because these 15 Fall foliage spots will have you craving a pumpkin spice latte faster than you can break out your slow-cooker for football Sundays.

Upstate New York knows how to do Fall. The Keene Valley and High Peaks region of the Adirondacks are just a couple of solid spots for leaf gawking in late September through October. Set out on a hike under a canopy of Autumn goodness, or just sip warm cider by one of the multitude of lakes, and chase it down with pie from the Noon Mark Diner. With trails of every length and difficulty, there's something for everyone. The whole area will be shining with Fall coloring, so no matter what, you (and the leaves) will be golden.

All of Vermont is a classic Autumn postcard scene during the Fall season, making it the perfect leaf-peeping road trip. Embark on a scavenger hunt for covered bridges while stuffing your face with cider donuts. Highlights might include Woodstock, Putney, Stowe, Peacham, and Warren (the general store has fantastic sandwiches and moonpies). Oh, and that maple syrup isn't going to stock up on its own, after all.

This part of the Golden State usually turns, well, golden, between September to mid-October, right before Winter conditions start to close the main road through the park.
