Meteor Showers in August
Here's How to Watch This Year's Epic Perseid Meteor Shower
Every August, you can expect to look up and see an incredible spectacle in the sky known as the Perseid meteor shower. This year, the meteor shower will be even more epic, as Earth will be closer to the action.
The meteor shower, which peaks on Aug. 11 through Aug. 12, is expected to show up in the sky with "double normal rates." Usually, you can expect to see 100 meteors per hour, but due to the Perseid outburst, you might see 200 meteors per hour, according to a NASA press release.
If you want to see the meteor shower for yourself, head outside on Thursday night and just simply look up. Busy that night? Try again on Friday or Saturday night, as the meteor shower might still be going strong. If you can't get away from a brightly lit area, Slooh will live stream the event on Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT and NASA will live stream it as well on Aug. 11 to 12 and 12 to 13 starting at 10 p.m. EDT. Take a look ahead at photos from previous Perseid meteor showers and see why you shouldn't miss this.
