Air Canada Flight Rerouted to Save Dog

Pilot Diverts Flight to Save Dog From Freezing to Death

An Air Canada flight originally scheduled to fly from Tel Aviv, Israel, to Toronto was rerouted to Frankfurt after the pilot realized there was a temperature malfunction in the cargo hold. That issue may not have affected any of the human passengers in the cabin, but one passenger's dog, Simba, was in cargo for the flight. Though the pilot wasn't sure what would happen with the temperature while he crossed the Atlantic Ocean, he feared the worst — that the dog might freeze — so he diverted the plane to Germany and put the dog and his human on a different plane, probably saving Simba's life. All in all, passengers were only delayed about 75 minutes, and the fuel cost was about $10,000, but in the grand scheme of things, we're pretty sure Simba's human is really, really thankful.
