Try on Victory Rolls For a Polished Holiday Hairstyle

Old Hollywood waves never go out of style, but if you're tired of sticking with that same overdone look, why not try a new classic style that's equally polished and timeless? Stars like Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry, and Dita Von Teese have all made this '50s hairstyle a part of their modern style, and you don't have to be a pop star to pull it off. We headed to The Red Door Union Square where Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa's Creative Director and National Director of Hair, Woody Michleb, showed us how to achieve this look with a few easy steps.

To complement this classic style, beauty advisor AJ Hayden went with equally classic makeup: winged eyeliner and red lipstick. To keep it modern, the key is a flawless complexion that focuses on highlighting and contouring with bold brows.

Get your comb, hair pins, and shine spray ready, and keep reading to see how you can achieve this glamorous look in time for the holidays!

Step 1: Tease and Roll

Step 1: Tease and Roll

On clean, dry hair, determine where you'd like your part — I went with a deep side part. Next, take a small diagonal section of hair and tease it at the roots. Then, twist the hair away from your face, and once you have a small roll, pin it in place. This will form the volume and anchor for your victory roll. You can let the ends out and blend it into the rest of your hair.

Step 2: Smooth and Wrap

Step 2: Smooth and Wrap

Now take the larger section of hair and wrap it around the anchor of teased hair. Using a comb and hair spray will help you achieve a smooth look. Secure it with bobby pins, and leave the ends out on top of your head.

Step 3: Create a Roll

Step 3: Create a Roll

Using your fingers and a comb, wrap the ends into the circular roll on top of your head. Use hair pins (not bobby pins!) to secure the roll as you go. Tame flyaways and secure the look with light hair spray.

Step 4: Repeat

Step 4: Repeat

Repeat the same steps for the other side of your head to create the complementing roll.

Step 5: Curl the Ends

Step 5: Curl the Ends

To finish the look, use a flatiron or curling iron to curl the ends inward. Don't forget a shine spray for a glossy look.
