"I'm proud of him," First Lady Michelle Obama told us today when we sat down with her at a campaign stop in Leesburg, VA. During our roundtable interview, Michelle said her husband impressed her during the first presidential debate, even though pundits agreed that Mitt Romney had a better night. The first lady explained, "I think my husband has done a phenomenal job. Not just in the debates, but over these last three-and-a-half years. And I continue to just be in awe at how poised and consistent and honest he is."
The president's consistency impresses the first lady, but she still gets nervous before the debates. Referencing Team USA gymnast Aly Raisman's nervous parents who went viral during the London Olympics, Michelle joked, "You all saw the Olympics with the gymnast's parents who were watching?" She went on, "That's how I feel. But you can't gesture!" Getting animated, the first lady lamented that she couldn't yell "Go baby!" or "Yes!" during the debate. "So I'm right there squeezing my hands and trying to make sure I'm paying attention," she confessed with a laugh.
Michelle Obama also said she gives more thought to everyday Americans she meets on the campaign trail than to the professional pundits, explaining, "There's sort of the scrum and the punditry and the analysis, and then there's the passion that we see every single day — that people are really focused on the choices because the choices are clear." The first lady said that "whether you like the debate or don't like the debate, the truth is that there are a lot of women out there that care deeply about making sure that we and our daughters have the right to make decisions about our own bodies," among other things.
The first lady also noted that the president himself isn't too focused on who "won" the debate. "He doesn't really focus on a debate or a conversation," she admitted. "The one thing he did tell me is that he has got to keep fighting for these folks. That he doesn't want to let anybody down, because he doesn't want anybody to have to go back."
To find out what First Lady Michelle Obama told us about raising her daughters, her husband's passion for the job, and what she hopes to accomplish in a second term and even after her family leaves the White House, stay tuned for the rest of our interview.
With Alicia Silverstone and Stacey Dash, aka Cher and Dionne, gracing the cover of Entertainment Weekly's Reunions Issue, we have the perfect excuse to revisit our color-coordinated nostalgia for Clueless. Even though it's been 17 years since Amy Heckerling's teen movie masterpiece blew our middle-school minds, we still feel a giddy joy whenever we hear "I Want to Be a Supermodel" — or see a badly parked Jeep Wrangler. What other film can claim teaching an entire generation of young women about everything from the power of persuasion to purple clogs? In this special PopSugar Rush, we divulge why we'll always give Clueless an enthusiastic two thumbs up!
"I Knew You Were Trouble" is the most recent tune Taylor Swift has teased ahead of her Oct. 22 album drop, and, per usual, with it comes speculation about which famous ex-boyfriend may have inspired her latest lyrics. In today's PopSugar Rush we come up with our own "man-behind-the-music" predictions for Taylor's next hit!
Kate Middleton wore a Reiss coat this morning to join her husband, Prince William, at a special soccer event. The couple traveled from their London home base by helicopter to the Football Association's National Football Centre about 125 miles away at St. George's Park in Burton upon Trent. While at the new training center for England's team, William and Kate met with some of the players and toured the new facility — including the hot tubs!
It was the latest to-do for William and Kate. Yesterday, Kate wore a Paule Ka suit to meet recipients of a legal scholarship in London with William. They have a busy itinerary for the rest of the week. Tomorrow, Kate's scheduled to make a handful of appearances in Newcastle. Thursday, William will attend his annual dinner benefiting 100 Women in Hedge Funds.
George Clooney and Stacy Keibler arrived in NYC yesterday and didn't waste much time before hitting the town. They left their Manhattan hotel, George carrying a script, for dinner at Il Mulino with their pals Bill Murray and Karen Duffy, one of George's exes, last night. Afterward, George even kindly offered money to a homeless man on their way back home. It was George and Stacy's latest star-studded meal — last week, George, Stacy, Cindy Crawford, and Rande Gerber met up for a double date on the West Coast. More recently, George and Stacy rubbed shoulders with President Obama and other Democratic-leaning celebs during a Sunday fundraiser in Hollywood.
Blake Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, were among those who traveled to upstate New York over the weekend for Amber Tamblyn and David Cross's wedding. Amber and Blake have been pals since their Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants days, and their other two costars, Alexis Bledel and America Ferrera, also traveled to the nuptials, along with famous friends like Amy Poehler and Questlove, who Instagrammed pictures from the busy weekend.
Amber wore a yellow dress and went shoeless for her big day. Amber, 29, and David, 48, had Yo La Tengo as their wedding band, with Questlove as the DJ. It was Amber's turn to have the spotlight after the Traveling Pants gang attended Blake and Ryan's South Carolina wedding just last month.
What brought Prince William and Kate Middleton together with shirtless soccer players this morning? The royals toured a brand-new, state-of-the-art training complex for their nation's athletes. Prince William gave a speech to mark the occasion and couldn't help but make a joke at his brother Harry's expense. Plus, find out what else Kate and William are up to this week in today's PopSugar Rush.
After spending time on separate coasts, Robert Pattinson was photographed jetting back to LA last night and, if rumors are true, to Kristen Stewart. We have the details on that and his recent guy time with best friend Tom Sturridge in New York City. Why was Robert spotted wielding a power drill inside an NYC bar? It's all in this PopSugar Rush!
Nicole Kidman got into character as Grace Kelly to film her latest movie, Grace of Monaco, in Menton, France, today. Nicole transformed into the actress-turned-princess wearing a yellow jacket and matching skirt with penny loafers on set. She's on location in France following a string of promotional stops for her highly anticipated but controversial upcoming film, The Paperboy, in which she stars opposite Zac Efron and Matthew McConaughey. Nicole also squeezed in time with husband Keith Urban last week. Nicole and Keith hit the red carpet during the New York Film Festival, where she was honored with a gala tribute.
