Soon, Joan Rivers's Palatial Penthouse Won't Look Like This

The NYC penthouse that belonged to the late Joan Rivers hit the market back in February. Melissa Rivers, Joan's daughter, put the home up for sale for $28 million. The triplex home is enormous, an 11-room condo with two kitchens, five fireplaces, and four and a half bathrooms. Let's not forget to mention the ballroom, music room, library, and terrace. Rivers purchased the home in 1987 when the space was in great need of remodeling — it was originally built in 1903. Joan, known for her luxurious taste, made sure to add elaborate crown molding and ceiling frescoes.

Now, however, it looks as though Joan's customizations are on the way out. The buyer, who purchased the home at the asking price, is undertaking a major redo in his own style. The New York Post reports that the new owner brought in an architect to start a gut renovation. The changes first must be approved by the building, but it's likely that gilt and glitz of Joan's old place will soon be gone.
