Calling All Vegans: You Can Now Enjoy Yogurt, Thanks to Nondairy Chobani

If you're vegan, you're familiar with the search for alternatives to delicious dairy products the world has to offer: cheese, milk, ice cream, the works. Yogurt, too, is something people who've gone dairy-free want in their shopping carts — and now, Chobani is making it that much easier to track down.

Last week, Chobani unveiled a line of vegan yogurt hitting grocery stores nationwide this month: Chobani made with organic coconut puree in place of dairy. This is the company's first plant-based recipe.

Chobani told POPSUGAR that coconut is a "leader among nondairy options in our category and has shown consistent growth."

"We have already worked with coconut as a core ingredient for many of our products," the company said. "It felt like a natural fit to start our plant-based journey with coconut because we know consumers love the taste and texture of coconut, and we already work with great suppliers."

The nondairy products come in single-serve cups that retail at $2 and 7-ounce single-serve drinks for $2.49. Flavors include "slightly sweet" plain, blueberry, strawberry, vanilla, mango, peach, and vanilla chai.

Since yogurt is technically a dairy product, Peter McGuinness, Chobani's chief marketing and commercial officer, told CNN that you "can't call it a yogurt." So, the vegan line will be labeled on shelves simply as "Non-Dairy Chobani."

These products are made from natural, non-GMO ingredients and have 25 percent less sugar than other nondairy brands, according to the company. The Non-Dairy Chobani ranges from 130 to 150 calories per serving. Its six live, active cultures make this a gut-friendly treat you can feel good about. And, like most Chobani Greek yogurt varieties, it's also gluten-free.

It's important to note, though, that each serving only has one gram of protein, so if protein-packed nondairy alternatives are more your style, you might want to look elsewhere. (Try this DIY vegan Greek yogurt, for instance.)

"Attention non-dairy seekers! You spoke, and we listened. Introducing New Non-Dairy Chobani — our first ever non-dairy blend made from real coconuts and real fruit," the company wrote on Instagram.

Vegan, or non-vegan, we'll toast to that.
