Is Ariana Grande's New Pokémon Tattoo a Subtle Tribute to Mac Miller?

Ariana Grande gave her ever-growing tattoo collection a nostalgic upgrade this weekend. On Jan. 13, the singer, songwriter, and music video extraordinaire shared an Instagram Stories snap to show off some brand-new ink on her inner arm: a Pokémon character known as Eevee.

"I've wanted this for so long. thank u sm," Grande captioned the photo while tagging Los Angeles-based tattoo artist Kane Navasard. Grande unveiled the tattoo just a few hours after admitting that she played a Pokémon game on her Nintendo Switch for nearly an entire day. "Honestly. yesterday i had a day off and i played pokémon let's go eevee for fifteen hours. honestly," she tweeted.

Sure, Grande's fresh ink is undeniably adorable, but we have a feeling there's a deeper meaning behind her tattoo choice. A bushy-tailed, furry-collared Pokémon character, Eevee is known for its ability to adapt and evolve based on its surroundings. If that doesn't describe Grande to a T after the whirlwind of a year she dealt with in 2018, we're not sure what does.

On top of that, back in October 2016, Grande and her then-boyfriend Mac Miller dressed as Eevee and Pikachu, respectively, for Halloween. Is it possible her new tattoo is a tribute of sorts to her late ex and their mutual love for Pokémon? It very well could be, considering the fact that she recently transformed the Pete Davidson tattoo on her foot into a sweet shout-out to Miller's dog, Myron.
