Life is about to become a whole lot easier. The chiseled, contoured look that started with, or at least got a lot of attention thanks to, the Kardashians has been replaced with softer, strobe-like accents. Opt for just blush (see: the baby face fad). Or, amp things up only with a touch of your favorite blush, bronzer, or highlighter — a little dab will do!

Wine-Stained Lips

It’s time to put away the merlot, at least in beauty terms. The deep red lip that everyone fell in love with last season has been replaced with a field of berries. Scoop up a deep boysenberry (you can also break out of your comfort zone with blue or blackberry shades) for Winter, and ease into a light mauve or pink shade come Spring.

Stenciled Brows

Bye-bye, stencils and harsh pencils! It's all about the natural and slightly untamed brows in 2017. All you need is some clear brow gel and a spoolie brush, adding a little brow powder to fill any gaps need be, and you’re ready to go. Doesn't that seem easy?

Smoky Eyes

Get ready to explore your artistic side. The multilayer smoke effect has been replaced with clean, graphic lines. Start with black liner along the upper and lower lash line for Winter, then lighten (or brighten!) things up with pastel and neon when it gets warmer out.

Soft, Even Curls

The soft waves that rolled onto the scene for 2016 are being replaced with roaring, uneven, and slightly messy curls. Pump up the volume with a texturizing paste or sea salt spray, working upward and outward. Then air-dry or blow-dry hair for a touch of that '70s "big hair, don’t care" oomph.

Refined Lashes

Proper lashes are a thing of the past. In 2017, go for width, not just length, with a volumizing mascara and/or false lashes. If things don’t even out in the end, don’t fret. Separated Twiggy or spider-like lashes are having a serious moment right now and will continue to in the New Year.

Whimsical Braids

That’s right. While we don’t see braids falling off of the beauty surface completely, Spring 2017 runway shows indicate that they will likely take a back seat to edgier, slicked-back ponytails, half-up, half-down styles and knots in the upcoming season. Think crisp, cool power-looks.

Matte Lipsticks

We’re not swearing off matte lipstick altogether. It’s just too chic and low-maintenance for us to say goodbye to just yet. That said, the new trend, at least as forecasted by the runway shows, is definitely high-shine. Scoop up a clear gloss and wear it by itself for a more natural look, or coat it over your favorite matte or cream shades for added dimension.

Matte Eye Shadows

Just like matte lipsticks, matte eye shadows are going away. Opt for a wash of orangey-red or metallic over the lid (bronze is the metal of the moment), or get creative with one or a few neon shades.

Moon Manicures

Half-moon manicures have been on the decline, especially with the rise of the reverse/colored french manicure this Fall. As you get further into 2017, you’ll be seeing more angular blocks, stripes, and solids in white, pastel (think ice cream), neon, and metallic hues – the more unexpected, the better.
