I Swapped My Makeup Routine For Cardi B's, and I'm Never Going Back

Most people do their makeup at home before leaving the house, but me? I rarely make it out the door on time during the week and often end up painting my face at my desk. I document the process each week for my POPSUGAR Beauty Instagram series, Desktop Beauty, and this week I wanted to take my shot at creating a Cardi B-inspired beauty look.

I am a huge fan of Cardi's music and sense of humor, but I am also shamelessly obsessed with her beauty style (homegirl has it going on, okurrr). So I tracked down the exact products her longtime makeup artist Erika La' Pearl used to put my face on this morning (I also added some new beauty launches in the mix).

Ahead, watch me attempt to replicate Cardi's pink smoky look that could work at the office and beyond. Then, be sure to tune in every Thursday for more of my desktop beauty shenanigans, and follow me on Instagram.

The Inspo

The Inspo

I wanted to re-create Cardi's baby shower look, because the soft-pink tones seemed wearable for work and true to my original style.

Complexion

To prep my skin, I followed the same steps La' Pearl used to create Cardi's look. I began by spritzing Marc Jacobs Beauty Re(Cover) Setting Mist ($39) on my face. The formula is super hydrating and made my dry skin feel plump and ready for foundation.

Once my face was hydrated, I placed Marc Jacobs Beauty Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter in Fantasy ($44) strategically along my cheekbones to make my complexion glow.

Instead of using the foundation La' Pearl used on Cardi, I gave the new NYX Cosmetics Can't Stop Won't Stop Foundation in Nutmeg ($15, available Aug. 16) a spin. The new formula is full coverage and went on like butter when applied with the Artis Elite Mirror Palm Brush Mini ($52).

Blush

I enhanced my cheekbones with Marc Jacobs Beauty Air Blush in 504 Kink & Kisses ($42), the same shade Cardi used to accentuate her face. Then, I applied Givenchy Beauty Teint Couture Shimmer Powder 02 (available in September) on my cheekbones for even more shimmer.

Final Look

Final Look

Here's my final look: a soft pink smoky eye, blushed cheeks, and a neutral lip. I love that this is soft enough for the daytime but could easily be dressed up for date night or happy hour. I'll definitely be adding all of the products used in this week's Desktop Beauty to my regular makeup rotation.
