We've all been using some of the same products from our local drugstore for years and years, but sometimes all it takes is seeing one person using it "differently" than you, and suddenly you see that old staple in an entirely new light. Well, that's how we feel about these drugstore standards, which we spotted used in countless unique ways backstage at Fall 2016 New York Fashion Week. From cool new hacks with Q-tips to the best new use for mascara, these affordable finds have officially become professional multitaskers.
Nicole Miller Fall 2016 New York Fashion Week
At Nicole Miller's Fall 2016 show, the focal point of the look was all about the statement cat eye featuring a serious flick. Lead makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes told us that she typically etches out the wing she wants when the face is most relaxed (both when doing it on models and herself), but always has supplies on hand to clean up any edges.
Weleda's Skin Food
Hughes uses Weleda's Skin Food ($15) on a Q-tip to fix any mistakes and blend any edges. She prefers the cream to makeup remover, which often requires tugging at the skin.
Rachel Antonoff Fall 2016 New York Fashion Week

Miss Pop told us that these imPress oval nails ($8) are foolproof. Even if you mess up with your nail art designs (like her lip pattern, above), you can wipe off the nail polish and start over, without the bother of redoing your base coat.

At DKNY's Fall 2016 show, the look was all about individuality, and Maybelline's key artist Yadim made sure each girl's own style really shown through.

Hughes uses mascara (!) on brows to get that just-dyed look, and her favorite is Maybelline's Great Lash Mascara ($5). But she noted that you need to be careful to just apply to the hairs and not to get any on your skin. We actually also heard this tip at Rodarte this season — so it might be worth trying out!
Anna Sui New York Fall 2016 Fashion Week
For Anna Sui's Fall 2016 show, Pat McGrath created psychedelic beauties with lots of lashes (two layers of falsies!). But a few girls in the show — six, to be exact — had hand-drawn graphic eyes that mimicked exaggerated lashes, drawn with a pencil liner.
Q-Tips
The pencil liner was then blended with a Q-tip ($3) to make the look appear a bit more like shadow, instead of a harsh statement eye. McGrath simply went back and traced along the edge of what she had just drawn in liner with the Q-tips, to smooth each edge out.
