The Secret to Getting the Victoria's Secret Angels' Sultry Stare

Last night the Victoria's Secret model class of 2014 walked down the London runway, showcasing their imaginative lingerie ensembles. Though everyone is talking about the million-dollar bustier pieces, we want to know about everything above the neck: the hair and makeup. Thankfully, our team was backstage as each girl got curled and glossed for the runway.

Dick Page, the lead makeup artist for the night, said his strategy was all about making the girls look classically gorgeous. "The main event is really how to keep the skin as vibrant as possible," Page said. "It's one of those few fashion shows where the girls do get to look alive, so the face is vibrant and energetic." That bouncy energy spilled over to the hair, where mane man Akki Shirakawa created the bombshell waves we covet each season. Keep reading to get the products and techniques behind the Victoria's Secret look.

A Victoria's Secret model's sultry stare isn't all due to sex appeal. The simple smoky eye also helps create a seductive persona. Page applied a mix of dark brown (nearly black) cream eyeliner over a neutral, taupe eye shadow, plus a few swipes of black mascara. When you re-create this look at home, it's important to erase any harsh lines by blending and smudging the eye colors together.

Page also illuminated the lids with highlighter. "I put a little highlighter on the inner corner of the eye because that makes the eye pop and catches the light really beautifully."

You might assume that getting the Victoria's Secret model glow is all about the bronzer, but Page is actually partial to blush. "I think cheek color is really underrated," he said. "Women tend to be afraid of it, or they think they have to sculpt and contour and all these things, but really all they have to do is something that gives them a bit of a flush." For the runway, he applied a pink tone to the cheeks and then buffed a bit of bronzer on top of that.

To get that creamy, kissable pout, Page layered a lip gloss over a pink Victoria's Secret lip stain. The shimmery glaze was a very complex, custom mix. Page blended shimmery eye shadows, beige lipstick, and a lot of Elizabeth Arden Eight-Hour Cream to get the perfect nude color to tone down the pink stain, resulting in a unique rosy shade that glistened in the runway lights.

"The Victoria's Secret women are all very strong, confident, sexy, and the hairstyle should be glossy and bouncy," Akki said. After blow-drying the hair with Victoria's Secret mousse, he wrapped hair around a one-inch curling iron in a random pattern to give the curls bouncy, beachy volume. He twisted the hair away from the face, focusing the waves at the ends of the hair.

While the hair was cooling, Akki pinned up the curls. As a final touch, each model was given a touch of gloss serum on the ends for added shine.
