When 30 homeless people visited Ascencia Homeless Shelter in Glendale, CA, the only thing they expected was time to enjoy a free meal. Instead, Greg Benson of Mediocrefilms teamed up with the shelter to pull a heartwarming prank on the guests.

The surprise was a sweet mission to bring happiness to the less fortunate through beauty and pampering. Volunteers and staff alike pulled out all the stops to create a spa day for the people at the shelter. Showers, manicure stations, and salon chairs were all set up for attendees. Even masseuses were there to provide some much-needed relaxation. Finally, each of the men and women was given the opportunity to pick out fresh clothing and get their hair and makeup done by professionals.

The experience proved to be truly emotional. One participant, a Vietnam veteran, choked up as he shared that he "isn't used to any affection." Others beamed as they looked at themselves in the mirror. "I haven't been able to afford makeup in about six years, so this feels great," one woman said.

These beautiful transformations alone are enough to bring you to tears, but it is the glowing grins left on everyone's face and the sincere gratitude that will truly warm your heart. How many of life's luxuries (like a simple haircut) have you taken for granted? You'll see that showing a little bit of love truly does go a long way — and the holiday season is an excellent time to remember that. Try not to cry as you watch this.
