I can't even remember the first time that I referred to myself as a feminist. Even though Beyoncé, Emma Watson, and national treasure Taylor Swift have thrust feminism into the forefront of the cultural zeitgeist, I consider myself a true feminist hipster trailblazer — fully and embarrassingly confident that I was espousing feminist ideals long before they were "cool." I can keenly remember standing confidently in front of my 10th grade Social Studies class and reading an endearingly earnest diatribe about the lack of female representation in politics, just as I can remember even earlier playground scrapes over juvenile sexist comments.
