You know what goes really well with a black dress? Bold lipstick! And Margot Robbie clearly got that memo when she chose her beauty look for the 2018 Golden Globes. POPSUGAR exclusively interviewed Margot's makeup artist, Pati Dubroff. She worked with Chanel on this look, which she described as "sun-kissed chic — beach babe gets dressed up."
"Margot [has] bronzed skin from holidays in Australia, and she was quite tan, so I was excited to play up that sun-kissed vibe. And the incredible beadwork on the dress called for a chic lip," Pati said. "The lip color I chose was inspired by orchids I saw on my holiday in Sri Lanka. I went into this orchid room and was taking pictures for an hour. When I was choosing Margot's lipstick, I kept thinking about the orchids! I used three shades to mimic the gradiation of color in orchid."
Pati first applied Chanel Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour in Suzanne ($37) as a base. She explained that this gave a little depth to her natural lip shade. Next, she added Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in La Sensuelle ($37), focusing it more on the outer edges and corners. She finished by applying Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in La Romanesque in the center of her lips for added dimension.
"People don't always understand why, when they use one lipstick, they're not getting the same effect as on the red carpet," Patti explained. "They're not getting the same depth or contour. By layering lipstick, you can get dimension and achieve a more vibrant and plump look."
The secret to Margot's postvacation glow was Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Élégance ($45) dusted on her cheeks.
Margot's bumpy beach waves were created by Bryce Scarlett for Moroccanoil. We love how the style was both glossy and undone, in that the waves were pretty relaxed.
