When you think of the Miss USA contestants and their hair, you might think of voluminous blowouts held up by a ton of hair spray. However, at the 2017 pageant, Miss District of Columbia decided to rock her natural curls, and it landed her the crown. Kára McCullough showed how staying true to yourself and not changing your look to blend in with others is exactly what confidence is all about.
But it wasn't the easiest decision for Kára, as she feared how people were going to react to her look. "I decided to embrace what makes me feel comfortable and what makes me feel the best and brightest on stage, but also embrace what other people can relate to," she told Refinery 29. "That typical, traditional sleek hair with a big tease, not to say it's gone out the window, but it's transitioning a lot."
"When I didn't see anyone in competitions with my hairstyle, I decided wanted to be the mold," she added. To enhance her hair's natural shine, stylist Albert Luiz used CHI Miss Universe Style Illuminate Spotlight Shine Spray.
Kára is a physical scientist at the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and although her comments on universal health care have caused controversy, it's her stunning curls that made her stand out on stage. Keep reading to see photos of Miss USA's gorgeous natural hairstyle.
