Description: “Haley’s hair color in this picture is a deep apricot with soft, golden highlights,” said celebrity master colorist Kim Vo, who’s worked on everyone from Britney Spears to Goldie Hawn. He explained there are two types of highlights here that add dimension to the apricot hue: sombré — aka soft ombré — and baby lights. “The sombré adds kisses of golden highlights mostly on the ends of her hair to give the sense of carefree color, and the baby lights add fine, whimsical highlights to the hair that mimic naturally sun-kissed hair.”

Who it works for: “This color is great for fair to porcelain skin, especially if you have a peachy complexion and freckles. It complements and adds a creaminess to skin tones and creates this sense of glowing illumination.”

Description: “This hue is achieved by a single-process color application followed by a shadow and soft painting at the hairline. This creates a brighter effect with the same tone throughout,” said Miguel Angarita, celebrity stylist and cofounder of NYC’s Mizu Salon.

Who it works best for: “This color is best on light to dark skin tones that have pink undertones,” said Angarita. He said it looks especially pretty on those who have deep chocolate eye colors.

Description: “I would describe this hair color as toasted pecan with sunset auburn highlights,” said Vo. “The highlights are focused around the face to add a peekaboo effect and to create a sense of depth and dimension.”

Who it works for: “Golden skin tones to tan tones are great for this color because it adds warmth and enhances one’s natural glow," he noted. "With the color base being a toasted pecan tone, you can feel warmth while still channeling an earthy vibe.”

Description: "Nicola's color is a natural but vibrant and sexy go-to red," said celebrity colorist Debi Dumas, whose clients include Chelsea Handler and Candace Cameron Bure. "This is a one-process color, best done with a color that picks up a bit of highlight so that the hair doesn’t appear too dense."

Who it works best for: "This color works for anyone who looks good in kelly green or sky blue," she explained. "That includes fair complexions, freckles, light eyes, and amber eyes. I also recommend this color for anyone who wants the traditional stamp of a natural 'redhead,' but with a twist of vixen. There's no prebleaching necessary, so it’s kinder to the hair than the bright jewel-tone reds."

Description: “Kandi is rocking a rich, hearty bordeaux wine tone with depth from roots to ends,” noted celebrity colorist Beth Minardi, whose client roster includes Uma Thurman, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Michelle Williams. “In the salon, ask for a bordeaux color glazing. If your hair color is faded, your colorist can weave in darker threads in the same family for to give the hair more depth with a soft, pretty finish.”

Who it works best for: “This beautiful bordeaux complements a number of skin tones, from ebony and porcelain," she said. "The only skin tone I don’t suggest this color for is a warm honey or someone with sallow skin.

Description: “My clients in New York City are asking for these deeper, richer blonds," Minardi said. "If you’ve been a lighter redhead who is yearning to be blond for Summer, Amy Adams’s warm, sunny strands are the way to go. This beautiful transition takes you from a red-red toward a sunnier blond infused with lots of warmth and a touch of golden tan.”

Who it works best for: “This color complements light to medium skin tones beautifully," she noted. "It’s also the perfect thickener for superfine strands. As the light reflects off the hair, it will give it the look of more texture and volume.”

Description: “As Summer approaches, it’s time to embrace the warmth and let it shine," Minardi said. "Emma has the King Midas touch in this high-impact Hollywood amber, which is infused with rich, gold, and darker golden tones, making it a little more daring and more interesting than a traditional red. The color infuses a strong, shiny golden cast into her hair, as strategic highlights are glazed with a golden finish.”

Who it works best for: “This golden copper looks particularly good with blue eyes and pale skin or lighter, warm skin," she explained. "If you’re the girl who gets the golden freckles in the Summer, you’ll love this look as well.”

Description: “This is a fashion-forward color that screams trendy fun but steps out of the pastels or psychedelics of the pinks, blues, and turquoises of past years,” said Dumas. “It is multidimensional, so several deeper and lighter ruby/garnet tones would be ribboned through the hair to achieve the look. Ask for deeper roots, with a color melt that goes to slightly lighter, sheerer color-washed tips. While it is not natural, it would be important to ask for vibrant, but not punky, color.”

Who it works best for: “This is a color for anyone who wants a look that gets you past that velvet rope — it spells confidence!" she added. "To achieve the look, anyone with darker locks will likely need to prebleach the hair, so it’s the equivalent of a brunette going blonde. For lighter browns or blonde girls, it will be less taxing on the hair. Either way, this is a color that will not be easy to unwind. For those wanting to re-create it with less commitment, stick with demipermanent glosses.”

Description: Leave it to flawless Debra Messing to rock a classic chestnut red. Vo said he softens the color slightly with soft auburn highlights, which makes it feel romantic and effortless.

Who it works best for: “From porcelain to dark olive, this is the most forgiving and inclusive to many skin tones,” said Vo. He recommended adding more or less of the auburn highlights depending on your complexion. “For example, porcelain skin can have more auburn highlights, light olive shin can have a 50/50 ratio of chestnut to auburn hair color, and dark olive skin tone can add a whisper of a few auburn highlights.”

Description: This is a complex color that requires many steps, Angarita explained. He said your colorist should begin with a single-process color all over of a copper red. “Then the colorist applies foil highlights at the roots, plus painted highlights on ends," she noted. "Finally, a golden-copper gloss is needed at the end to blend and to add tone and shine.”

Who it works best for: “This color is best on superfair, creamy skin tones," she said. "It’s great with all eye colors, from blue to green to brown and black."
