These Marine-Inspired Products Are Cute — but the Backstories Are Even Better

Lush always has adorable Jelly Bombs, but in honor of World Oceans Day, it's launching one with a deeper meaning. The Turtle Jelly Bomb ($8) smells like pine and sandalwood while raising awareness of plastic pollution in our oceans, which kills over 100 million sea creatures a year.

Lush is always finding ways to make our lives more eco-friendly, and around 40 percent of the brand's products are sold without plastic packaging. The brand also supports The Sea Change Agency, which hosts paddleboarding trips to collect plastic and debris off the coast of Los Angeles.

You may love your makeup wipes — but it turns out our beaches don't. Take My Face Off makes reusable Makeup Mittys ($39 for three) so that we can all stop contributing to shoreline pollution. The brand is also donating 20 percent of its profits for June to the Ocean Conservancy's Trash Free Seas initiative, which aims to end the flow of trash to our oceans.

In an effort to help reduce plastic pollution from the environment, Kate Somerville has teamed up with the Plastic Oceans Foundation. The brand has already pledged to make all of its packaging recyclable by 2022 and has added more promises to the list in honor of World Oceans Day.

The brand pledges to remove plastic from the packaging of all of its kits, reduce nonessential plastic from the Kate Somerville Skin Health Clinic and eliminate it from the head office, make its packaging recyclable, and provide employees with volunteer opportunities to support sustainability.
