There's no denying the effects "The White Lotus" had on pop culture, but whether you realize it or not, the HBO series's influence also crept its way into beauty. With iconic stars like Tanya (played by Jennifer Coolidge), Harper (Aubrey Plaza), and Lucia (Simona Tabasco), many beauty trends have spurred out of the HBO Max original — from the "Italian bob" to "Chartreuse" nails.

Inspired by Portia (Haley Lu Richardson), a certified beauty It girl and clear fan of the nail polish color by how much wore it in the show, "Chartreuse" nails landed themselves on this year's list of spring nail polish color trends. The specific hue derives from the green-yellow bottle of French herbal liquor by the same name. The color is bright and unexpected, making it perfect for the spring season.

"Thanks to Portia from "[The] White Lotus" season 2, Chartreuse nails are definitely having a moment," Erica Hipp, an artist with Nailing Hollywood, tells POPSUGAR. "It's like the alt red nail — it brings a pop of bold color to any look but in a funky and playful way."

In the show, Portia, Tanya's young assistant, stands out against the luxe resort background and typical affluent clientele. She's very youthful and constantly chasing a good time. "The White Lotus" makeup department head Rebecca Hickey previously summed up her look to POPSUGAR, in short, by saying, "she looks like Urban Outfitters." Which is also a fitting way to describe this particular shade of green polish.

Over the last few years, green nails of all shades have become an unlikely favorite. Last year, emerald and neon green saw a lot of popularity, and before that, a deeper olive green reigned supreme. While muted sage nails are always a favored choice for spring, "Chartreuse" feels fresh for 2023.
