Courteney Cox's Halloween Costume Was a Spooky Callback to Her Scream 3 Bangs
Courteney Cox knows that the only thing that might be scarier than being stalked by a masked serial killer is the haircut she wore in Scream 3. Case in point: over the weekend, the actress shared a photo of the homemade costume she wore during her Halloween festivities, and the costume in question poked fun at the supershort bangs her character, Gale Weathers, sported in the third installment of the Scream series. In a selfie posted to Instagram, Cox is seen standing in front of someone dressed as Ghostface and holding a large pair of scissors to her forehead.
"Not the bangs!!!!!!!!" she captioned it.
Cox's Scream 3 bangs have become notorious since the movie came out in 2000, and her making fun of them has become a frequent occurrence in the last few years — a Halloween tradition if you will. Last year, for example, she shared a short video of herself celebrating the holiday by rewatching the movie at home. "I thought I'd get in the spirit of things and watch some of the Scream movies," she said. "I chose Scream 3 and I noticed that Gale Weathers has those infamous bangs."
She continued, "I don't think anything's that wrong with it, check it out. I think they're cool. I say I can bring it back." Cox then proceeds to cut her own bangs in the video. The actress also mentioned in an interview with People last year that she sometimes regrets not speaking up about the bangs being way too short.
"At that time in my life, I wasn't the kind of person who would say, 'You know what? These are too short. We need to get new bangs,'" she said. "In reality I should have said, 'No, no, no we have to get new bangs.' I did not stick up for myself and hence I look horrible. That was a big lesson: take care of yourself."
