Never one to shy away from self-expression and trying new things, last week Miley Cyrus ever-so-boldly decided to give herself a DIY bang trim at home. However, she joked during one of her Instagram Live episodes of Bright Minded that the result was more Tiger King than she was originally hoping for. Nevertheless, Cyrus didn't let it get her down and marked the occasion as a lesson learned rather than a regret.
To help remedy the situation, celebrity hairstylist Sally Hershberger came to Cyrus's rescue and helped her fix her hair virtually over FaceTime: "Miley called and also commented on my Instagram post to let me know that she had butchered her bangs," Hershberger told POPSUGAR. "The initial issue was that Miley's bangs were too short and because she used thinning sheers, her bangs started to pop up."
On the call, Cyrus went in to trim her bangs for a second time, but this time with Hershberger guiding her the whole way through.

"I had Miley pull forward the section of hair around her face and put the rest back in a ponytail," said Hershberger. "I then took a pair of scissors and demonstrated how to twist each section of hair and nip off the very edges — less than an eighth of an inch. Miley then did the same and was able to reshape her bangs. Once we got through her bangs, I then had her create a middle part with the rest of her hair, pull it forward and just nip the bottom to give the overall haircut texture and connection."
If you botched your own bangs or you want to attempt a trim at home, Hershberger advised, "Just remember that less is more — don't pull your bangs straight down and chop them off."
During the video chat, Hershberger also gave Cyrus a tutorial for shaving her boyfriend, Cody Simpson's, hair.

The FaceTime call with Cyrus was just one of many virtual haircuts that Hershberger will be doing as she kicked off "Sally Cuts For Coronoavirus" on April 6.
Hershberger is offering 45-minute virtual hair appointments to coach her amateur clients through giving themselves a chic cut at home. The digital appointments will cost $300 each, and 50 percent of the proceeds will be donated to Direct Relief, a charity organization fighting COVID-19.
