I'll just come right out and say it: I am a very hairy individual. Over the years, I've come to accept that I'll likely have to shave my armpits every day and my legs every other, but that doesn't make the task any less annoying. And don't even get me started on my facial hair. I have so much peach fuzz, my upper lip might as well audition for a Gilette razor commercial.

During my hunt for a solution, I've come to realize that dermaplaning my face makes me break out horribly, so save for the occasional Dermaflash session, I tend to just leave it be. However, it bugs me when I want to take pictures or get in front of a camera because no matter how much color correcting I do, my skin tone just never looks even. I've tried waxing, but I find it too painful. Not to mention, depending on whether you use a strip or hard wax, the results can be hit or miss. I've had better luck with depilatory creams, so when I saw that Nair came out with the Prep and Smooth Face Hair Remover ($9, originally $10), I had to try it.

About the Nair Prep and Smooth Face Hair Remover

  • The formula comes in two scents: watermelon and coconut. The former has hyaluronic acid and the latter has collagen.
  • The cream comes in an easy-to-use squeeze tube for hands-free application.
  • The circular nozzle allows for precise dispersion of the cream onto the face.

What I Like About the Nair Prep and Smooth Face Hair Remover

Immediately, upon opening the Nair Prep and Smooth Face Hair Remover, I really enjoyed how compact and easy to hold the product was. The plastic almost felt like it had a non-slip grip on it, so even though my hands were a bit clammy (I was nervous, OK?), I wasn't worried about dropping it or getting it all over.

I found the circular applicator to be a bit weird at first, but I quickly realized that it was perfect for spreading the formula onto my upper lip without having to use my fingers, making for a truly mess-free experience. Additionally, I've used Nair on other parts of my body before, and I'd be lying if I didn't say I was concerned that the same off-putting scent would make an appearance with this product. Thankfully, I only encountered a faint scent of watermelon, so having the product directly under my nose was bearable.

Overall, my experience with the cream was practically flawless. From start to finish, the product was intuitive and easy to use, and it actually removed a majority of the peach fuzz on my upper lip. After I wiped off the cream, my upper lip felt a little dry and tight, so I applied some post-wax oil, and the feeling went away instantly.

How to Use the Nair Prep and Smooth Face Hair Remover

I followed the instructions provided on the packaging to the letter. First, I washed my face to make sure it was free of any product and dry to the touch. Then I unscrewed the cap and glided the applicator tip across my face, spreading the cream to the desired location. I had to go over the area a few times to get an even layer, but other than that, I had no issues with application.

To be on the safe side, I waited for five minutes, as instructed on the packaging, but you can leave it on for up to 10 if you have thick, hard-to-remove hair. Once the time was up, I gently wiped the cream off, ensuring it was clean from all residue, and I was done.

What to Consider Before Trying the Nair Prep and Smooth Face Hair Remover

If you have extremely sensitive skin, I highly recommend patch testing before using this product. As is the case with most hair-removal creams, it can cause irritation, especially if you rub your skin too hard when removing the product or leave it on for longer than recommended. Though this wasn't something I experienced, some people reported a burning sensation the longer they left the cream on, so trying it on a small area first just to see how your skin reacts is a good practice.
