Of all the Disney princesses, The Little Mermaid's Ariel is the one we can relate to most. She's a DIY beauty maven (using a fork as a comb — that's creative!). She breaks the makeup rules by wearing red lipstick with her fiery crimson hair. Ariel also knows the power of a well-placed hair bow. But what if we remixed our favorite sea-bound siren for the 21st century? Ariel would definitely be the most bohemian of our girlfriends and the perfect Coachella companion.

We gave Ariel a festival-worthy makeover with the help of head makeup artist Joshua Quick at the Make Up For Ever boutique in NYC. This costume has all the Ariel essentials: red hair, a bright lip, and bronzed skin. But adding the metallic tattoos and flower crown make the look 100 percent flower child. Keep reading for a step-by-step guide to creating this hippie version of Disney's most spirited siren. The good news is this makeup look is one you can wear any day of the week, not just Halloween.

Here's a look at the face chart Make Up For Ever created just for POPSUGAR Beauty!

Apply Bronzer

Apply Bronzer

Princess Ariel spent a lot of time by the beach. To re-create her tanned complexion, start with a matte bronzer like Make Up For Ever Mat Bronze ($32). You want to sweep the color on the low plains of the face: temples, hollow of cheeks, and jaw.

Highlight Cheekbones

Highlight Cheekbones

The sun-kissed glow comes from properly placed highlighter. Focus on applying a warm, pearlescent powder to the cheekbones. Then, add color with a coral blush like Make Up For Ever HD Blush in 215 ($26) on the apples of cheeks.

Ariel had a penchant for pearls (they are the ultimate sea treasure, after all), so mix up a unique iridescent white shadow for the lids. This custom color is a mix of silver glitter, white glitter, pale turquoise loose pigment, and purplish-white iridescent powder.

Even though you're only using one shade on the lids, you can still give eyes an added pop. "You can wrap the color around the inner corner to the tear duct to open the eye up," Quick explained. Then add a few coats of mascara for an even more wide-eyed effect.

Add a Ladylike Lip

Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge #16 ($24) is the final step. Paint on the hot-pink color with a lip brush for an even finish, focusing on the outline of lips first, then the central lip area. Finish it with the high-shine gloss on the opposite end.

To convert this Ariel into a Coachella queen, we added metallic temporary tattoos, which were a festival favorite this Summer. The scaly arm design is from the Flash Tattoos x Goldfish Kiss H20 ($25) collaboration with designer Rebekah Steen. The gilded necklace is part of the Shimmer Jewelry Tattoos line ($10).

Head to the nearest Party City to get a long scarlet wig ($25). To get Ariel's oversize bang, create a deep part on the right side of the hair and sweep hair over one eye. Secure with two bobby pins in an X shape.

No bohemian, festival-inspired princess would be complete without her flower crown. This wreath of buds, shells, and pearls is a custom creation from Crowns by Christy.
