Julep Gets Back Into the Mascara Game, and It's Predictably Awesome

Julep is a beauty brand name synonymous with gorgeous nail colors. The label's tall, thin bottle is easy to identify in a lineup, doesn't risk rolling around thanks to its sturdy, cube-like base, and the brush is just long enough to create the perfect fan effect, making application a cinch. The monthly subscription box is one of our favorites, and people are losing their minds over the Plié wand — a nifty new nail technology that allows you to paint both hands as perfect as your dominant hand. And now the lacquer empire is launching two lash-enhancing mascaras.

Full disclosure: this isn't Julep's first rodeo when it comes to mascara. In 2012, it launched American Beauty and Boho Glam. I got a special sneak peek of one of the newest launches, Length Matters, the (obviously) length-focused option that promises extension-like lashes without the glue. The other, Go Big Volumizing Mascara ($26), is aimed at amped-up lashes without flakes or clumpiness. I tested the Length Matters version to show you how amazing it is. See the results for yourself!

Eyes Wide Open

I applied Length Matters to my right eye, and the side-by-side comparison speaks for itself. My right side looks much more awake than my left.

The Wand

The Wand

The wand is designed with micro rubber bristles, which allow you to grab those pesky baby lashes in the corners of your eyes. I liked that I could get to the base of my lashes without worrying about poking myself in the eye.

The Formula

The Formula

The mascara formula is wet, which means, essentially, there's no flaking or clumping. Word to the wise, though: dust your lashes with powder before applying. This will prevent your lashes from grouping together, due to the moisturizing nature of the product.

Get Mileage Out of It

Because of its hydrating properties (it includes both synthetic and natural waxes), you can use Length Matters for up to six months. Most mascaras recommend discarding after three months.
