Going to be honest: sometimes lipsticks end up all over my face (especially the matte ones), so I often prefer tinted balms or sheerer shades. The new Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipstick ($6), available in December at mass retailers, leaves that just-ate-cherry stain (without any actual mess). The buttery, slightly scented formula comes in 12 shades from nude to berry, but my favorite color is Red-Light Medium (pictured) because adds a red pop I can wear both day and night. — LL
