Find Your Next Natural Hair Care Obsession at Target — Exclusive!

Walking into a Target these days is sort of like going on a discovery trip. Seriously, there's a new brand to discover down every aisle! In recent years the bull's-eye has brought several of our favorite start-up brands into the national spotlight, including multicultural hair offerings like Oyin Handmade and luxury-level skin care brands like Skinfix. This Spring, the megachain will be dominating yet another beauty category — natural hair care. Four new brands — Attitude, Renpure, SoCozy, and Soapbox — will arrive on shelves nationwide on March 1 as an extension of Target's hair lineup.

When we say "natural," we mean these brands meet the most stringent organic girl's standards, with no sulfates, parabens, or other chemicals you can't even pronounce (di-metha-what?). We had an exclusive opportunity to try out all the products (and share our reviews with you!). Keep reading to discover the amazing stories behind each of these hair-conscious companies and preview what we think will be your new favorite Target beauty buys.

Attitude

Attitude

The story: The thought that our favorite shampoo could be packed with carcinogens is downright horrifying. That's why we love Attitude's "worry-free ingredients" label. You can trust that every product is safe to the touch. "While cancer-causing chemicals, mutagens, and reproductive toxins are still legally tolerated contaminants found in personal care products, you won't find them in ours," said Jean-Francois Bernier, company founder and president of Bio Spectra. Currently Attitude is available in 30 countries worldwide, but the brand's hair care products are launching in the US exclusively at Target.

Formulated without: Formaldehyde, paragons, phthalates, polyethylene glycol (PEG), silicone, 1.4-dioxane (a known cancer-causing chemical according to State of California Proposition 65), and sodium laureth sulfate.

Our favorites: First of all — how cute is this packaging? The trees and sunflowers easily help consumers distinguish between shampoos and conditioners (respectively). Our tester sang the praises of the Volume & Shine Shampoo, which didn't leave her fine hair limp or lifeless.

Renpure

Renpure

The story: If you turn over the conditioner your salon stylist said you just had to buy, we bet you'll find a lot of ingredients you don't recognize. Family-owned hair care brand Renpure got rid of all those harsh chemicals while still giving you the type of soft, shiny hair you'd expect from a luxury product. And with shampoo and conditioner priced at only $5, you can afford to splurge on multiple bottles of the Target exclusive.

Formulated without: Sulfates, parabens, and color dyes.

Our favorites: Even though every shampoo is formulated sans sulfates, we found the Biotin and Collagen Thickening Shampoo had enough creamy lather to facilitate an amazing shave! On the other hand, our resident curly girl loved the cleansing conditioner, which left her with flawless (not greasy) second-day ringlets.

SoCozy

SoCozy

The story: Cozy Friedman began her hair care brand through her Manhattan salon, Cozy Cuts For Kids. Parents can be pretty picky about what their children eat, wear, and bathe in . . . So the fact that SoCozy meets the mommy standard says a lot about the quality. "Our mantra when it comes to creating products is 'No Nasties. No Joke,'" she said. The thing that really makes this kids' hair care line stand out is that it's all allergy safe. "So many children and even parents have allergies to gluten, nuts, and wheat," she said. "With a little effort, it's possible to find substitutions that work just as well, so we've made that commitment."

Formulated without: Parabens, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic colorants, propylene glycol, gluten, wheat, and nuts.

Our favorites: The 3-in-1 Shampoo + Conditioner + Body Wash is a bestseller for the brand, and we can see why! It is perfect for impatient toddlers, and the product is packed with keratin and kiwi fruit extract to condition and strengthen the hair. You can also use it as bubble bath (so that really makes it 4-in-1)! Our kid tester also enjoyed "shooting" the detangling spray himself, while his mom is devoted to the Boo! Lice Prevention line. We predict this will be a Summer camp essential. Plus, the scent isn't too fruity or flowery, making it appealing to both boys and girls.

Soapbox

Soapbox

The story: Raise your hand if you love a buy-one, get-one sale. (Hello, Payless!) Soapbox gives that concept a charitable spin with a buy-one, give-one mantra. "As a subcontractor for USAID, I realized that while there are incredible efforts to increase access to water, sanitation, and better hygiene around the world, soap was not a part of the equation," said David Simnick, cofounder and CEO of Soapbox. So for every bottle sold at Target, Soapbox and the Splash organization will provide a month's supply of clean water to a community in need. Countries like Nepal, China, India, and Vietnam will benefit. The brand-spankin'-new hair care range will only be sold at Target stores.

Formulated without: Parabens, EDTA, sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, petrolatum, propylene glycol, diethanolamine, triethalnolamine, imidazoldinyl, urea and diazolidinyl urea, silicone, and ethoxylated ingredients.

Our favorites: We'd never heard of the bataua fruit before trying the Soapbox line, but the oils have been praised in the Amazon rain forest for repairing damaged hair. For us, the tropical scent is what will continue to draw us back again and again.
